Collaborator Beau Willimon discusses his delight in working on Andor and Severance projects

In a candid chat with Variety, writer Beau Willimon shared his current projects as an executive producer on Apple TV+'s Severance and scriptwriter for Andor on Disney+. He likened working on Star Wars to being a "session musician on someone's album," starting with Tony Gilroy on House of Cards.

Willimon, who initially felt like an outsider with no Star Wars knowledge, was thrilled to join the creative process, stating that Gilroy wanted a "human story, a grown-up story." Collaborating with Gilroy and his brother Dan Gilroy for six weeks to break the story for Andor, Willimon felt free from the usual storytelling burdens as he solely focused on script delivery for his friend Tony Gilroy.

The writer expressed his satisfaction with the second season of Andor, noting his pride in the production. He also talked about his participation in shaping the world of Severance as an executive producer, a task he usually doesn't undertake. Willimon saw it as a challenge to help the team bring the show's second season to life while serving the story, much like facilitating someone else's vision.

His experiences with Andor and Severance have sparked a new-found appreciation for producing, providing Willimon with a unique blend of creative freedom, practical assistance, and distance that can benefit the projects he works on.

On the horizon, fans can anticipate the latest releases from Marvel, Star Wars, and Star Trek. The DC Universe continues to grow on film and TV, while the future of Doctor Who remains intriguing[BM1][BM2][BM3][BM4][BM5].

Willimon shares his excitement for the future, expressing his eagerness to see the latest releases from various entertainment giants such as Marvel, Star Wars, Star Trek, and DC Universe. He envisions himself contributing to these upcoming projects, hoping to facilitate the vision of the creative teams behind these highly anticipated titles, much like he has done with Apple TV+'s Severance and Disney+'s Andor.
