Collaborative endeavor by previous Porcupine Tree musicians, Colin Edwin and Chris Maitland, on their upcoming collective project

In an exciting turn of events, former Porcupine Tree members Colin Edwin (bassist) and Chris Maitland (drummer), along with guitarist Jon Durant, have come together to create a new album titled The Baldock Transmission. This is the first time Edwin and Maitland have worked together since Porcupine Tree's 2002 album Lightbulb Sun, after which Maitland left the band.

The music for The Baldock Transmission was created based on the innate chemistry between the musicians, with many songs, including Moonloop, Intermediate Jesus, and the entire Metanoia album, being developed with minimal prior discussion. This approach allowed for a natural flow of ideas and a refreshing spontaneity in the recording process.

Jon Durant, who performs with Edwin in the ambient progressive group Burn Belief, joined this new project, bringing fresh creative energy to the collaboration. Maitland described their reunion as revitalizing a dormant creative relationship, welcoming the spontaneity of the new recording sessions after a period focused on more regimented musical work in West End musicals.

The Baldock Transmission is scheduled for release on November 7, 2025, through Alchemy Records. The Limited Edition of the album will be available in transparent green vinyl. In addition to the vinyl, CD and digital formats of the album will be available with extra tracks.

Maitland's departure from the band after the release of Lightbulb Sun was followed by Edwin's continued work with Porcupine Tree until the Incident tour. However, he was not part of the 2022 Porcupine Tree reunion. This new project serves as a testament to the musical connection between Edwin and Maitland, which had been dormant but not extinct.

The album was recorded without any preconceived plans about its sound, allowing the music to evolve organically from the creative energy of the trio. Fans of Porcupine Tree's improvisational moments, such as those found in Dislocated Day, Radioactive Toy, and Not Beautiful Anymore, will find similar spontaneous improv moments in The Baldock Transmission, especially during live performances.

Pre-orders for The Baldock Transmission will open on September 5. This upcoming album promises to be a delight for fans of Porcupine Tree's unique sound and the creative collaboration between Edwin, Maitland, and Durant.
