Collaborative adventure in Final Fantasy 14 and Monster Hunter as Omega and Arkveld face off in a joint crossover event

Gaming enthusiasts, mark your calendars! A major cross-promotion event between the popular MMORPG, Final Fantasy XIV (FFXIV), and Monster Hunter Wilds is set to take place this fall. The collaboration, announced during Gamescom 2025 Opening Night Live, promises to bring new monsters, thematic creatures, and exciting story content to both game worlds.

Andrea Shearon, a seasoned games journalist who has been covering the industry for nearly a decade, is particularly thrilled about this crossover. Shearon, who often plays MMO games like FFXIV and enjoys a good scare in co-op horror games, will undoubtedly be one of the many players eagerly anticipating this event.

Monster Hunter Wilds

In Monster Hunter Wilds, the event kicks off in late September with the introduction of Chocobos, iconic creatures from FFXIV, into the Forbidden Lands. Players can also look forward to a new robotic superboss, Omega Planetes, featured in an all-new narrative quest. The collaboration content was developed with story supervision from the FFXIV team to appeal to both communities.

Omega Planetes differs from the Omega boss in FFXIV by having a unique AI, accommodating lore sensibilities for players familiar with the original Omega from FFXIV. Additionally, Cactuars will be roaming in Monster Hunter Wilds, adding a touch of FFXIV's charm to the game.

For those who enjoy achievement hunting and raiding, Monster Hunter Wilds will feature Final Fantasy-themed visitors and rewards starting in late September. Chocobo skins will be available for Seikret mounts, and players can earn a Monster Hunter glamour by participating in the event.

Final Fantasy XIV

In Final Fantasy XIV, the collaboration begins in early October. The Guardian Arkveld, a Monster Hunter-themed entity, descends into the world of FFXIV, bringing Monster Hunter Wilds-themed content into the game. This mutual cultural exchange will see the Great Hunt encounter with Rathalos return to FFXIV, as well as the addition of a Seikret mount, Monster Hunter glam, and a trial against Arkveld.

For players seeking a challenge, there will be an harder version of The Great Hunt with a Rathalos mount drop potential. On the other hand, those who prefer a more leisurely experience can enjoy an easier version of The Great Hunt for orchestrion rolls, glamour, and housing items.

The in-game FF14 event will add a Monster Hunter theme to Eorzea, further enhancing the crossover lore. Alpha and Omega from FFXIV will play a role in the Monster Hunter Wilds story, creating a unique narrative that bridges the two game worlds.

A Decade of Gaming Journalism

Andrea Shearon, who joined the PC Gamer team in 2025 after writing for IGN, USA Today, Fanbyte, and Destructoid, is looking forward to covering this exciting event. With a soft spot for older RPGs and a weekly to-do that includes a bit of MMO time in FFXIV, survival-crafting games, and co-op horror games, Shearon is well-equipped to bring the latest news and insights about this cross-promotion to her readers.

This collaboration between Square Enix and Capcom promises to be an unforgettable experience for players of both games. With new monsters, thematic creatures, and exciting story content, this fall 2025 cross-promotion is not to be missed!
