Collaboration Delights Beau Willimon in Andor and Severance Projects

Hangin' with Willimon: A Behind-the-Scenes Look at His Current Projects

Get ready to geek out, folks! The hitmaster Beau Willimon, known for his crafty work on shows like "House of Cards," is currently jamming with some fan-favorites: he's an EP on Apple TV+'s Severance and a writer for both seasons of Star Wars: Andor.

In a chat with Variety, Willimon compared writing for Star Wars to bein' a session musician on someone's album. His collaboration with Andor creator Tony Gilroy started on Willimon's own Netflix series, House of Cards, with Gilroy hoppin' on board as a consultin' producer.

Tony Gilroy, of course, asked Willimon if he wanted to pen a few episodes for Andor. Willimon figured he was jokin', 'cuz he ain't no Star Wars superfan, but more of a lovin' appreciator. Gilroy told him, "I want to tell a human story and a grown-up story," and Willimon was all about it.

For six weeks, Willimon, Gilroy, and Tony Gilroy's brother Dan Gilroy broke the story for Andor. Willimon got to offload the burden of bein' a showrunner, and just focus on penin' scripts for his buddy Tony Gilroy. He was stoked on the second season.

Bein' a hand in fleshn' out the world of Severance for Apple TV+ ain't somethin' he usually does, but he took the EP gig to give 'em a lil' extra help. He shared, "With Severance, it was this beautifully built world and tone, and I challenged myself to help that team bring the second season to fruition. I was in service of the story like anyone else."

About that current season of Andor, Willimon said, "I'm proud as hell of the second season." With his lovin' of producin' now at an all-time high, who knows what future projects Willimon's got up his sleeve!

Wanna stay tuned for more sci-fi and drama? Keep your eyes peeled for when Marvel, Star Wars, and Star Trek drop their latest series, or what's next in the DC Universe on the big and small screens. And don't forget that Doctor Who ain't goin' nowhere! The Time Lord's adventures are just beginnin'. Cha-cha-cha!

  1. According to Willimon, working with Tony Gilroy on 'Star Wars: Andor' was like being a session musician, as his collaboration began on 'House of Cards.'
  2. In contrast, Willimon's involvement with 'Severance' on Apple TV+ is unique for him, as he took on an executive producer role to help bring the second season to fruition.
  3. As for the future, Willimon expressed pride in the second season of 'Andor,' but with his ongoing passion for producing, there could be many exciting projects yet to come, potentially in the realms of sci-fi, drama, or entertainment covered by outlets like Gizmodo and io9, such as those focusing on movies-and-tv and technology.
