Collaboration between Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan confirmed, still undecided on who will direct the project

In a momentous announcement at the Chennai airport on September 17, 2021, legendary actors Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan revealed their plans to collaborate once again on a new project. This reunion marks the first time the two actors will appear together on screen since their 1978 film, Allaudinaum Arputha Vilakkum.

Their first on-screen collaboration was in K Balachander's film Apoorva Raagangal, which was also Rajinikanth's film debut. Over the past five decades, the duo has collectively acted in over 400 films, starring in nearly 20 movies together, including Thillu Mulllu, a remake of the iconic Bollywood cult classic Golmaal, Aval Appadithaan, Ninaithale Inikkum, and Geraftaar.

The upcoming film, yet to be confirmed as Lokesh Kanagaraj's project, is speculated to go on the floors soon. Lokesh Kanagaraj, known for directing films like Coolie, Leo, Vikram, Kaithi, and Maangaram, is rumored to direct the upcoming film. However, neither Rajinikanth nor Kamal Haasan have confirmed Lokesh Kanagaraj as the director of their magnum opus.

The reunion will be produced by Raaj Kamal Films International and Red Giant Movies. Kamal Haasan confirmed their reunion at a recent awards ceremony in Dubai, stating that the movie is contingent on finding the right story, characters, and director.

Rajinikanth's latest movie, Coolie, has now been released on streaming platforms, having collected an impressive Rs 5 billion (Dh208.9 million approximately) globally, according to the box office tracker Sacnilk. The movie starring Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan will be the first time the two actors appear together since Allaudinaum Arputha Vilakkum in 1978.

The duo's initial desire was to share one biscuit each, symbolizing their eagerness to collaborate again. However, they have now decided to be satisfied with half the biscuit, indicating their willingness to work together once more. This reunion promises to be a significant event in the history of Indian cinema, bringing together two of the most iconic actors of their generation.
