Coleman Stands Up for Girlfriend Richardson Following Her Domestic Assault Arrest

Sha'Carri Richardson, the reigning 100m World Champion and Olympic gold medalist, was arrested at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport on July 27, 2025, for an alleged domestic assault against her boyfriend, fellow Olympian Christian Coleman.

According to the Seattle Police Department, Richardson was charged with fourth-degree domestic assault. Surveillance footage showed Richardson pushing Coleman multiple times and throwing a pair of headphones at him during an argument at a TSA checkpoint.

The incident reportedly started as a verbal argument at the security checkpoint. Richardson is accused of pushing Coleman multiple times, causing him to fall into a nearby column.

Regarding the investigation, Christian Coleman did not cooperate with it. Police reports state Coleman declined to press charges and did not want to participate as a victim in the investigation. The case was eventually cleared after Coleman’s refusal to cooperate with authorities.

Richardson was booked into South Correctional Entity (SCORE) in Des Moines, Wash., on Sunday and released by court order on Monday, July 28.

Christian Coleman, who competed in the 100 and 200 meters at the U.S. Track and Field Championships over the weekend but failed to qualify for next month's world championships, stated that he does not feel Richardson should have been arrested. Coleman also believes the arrest was unnecessary.

As the 100m World Champion, Richardson has an automatic bid to the 2025 World Championships in Tokyo, assuming no more legal hurdles stand in the way. Further updates on the case and Richardson's legal status are yet to be disclosed.
