Coldplay's lead singer expresses opinions about a debate-provoking incident involving fans during their live shows.
Coldplay's Chris Martin Addresses Viral "Kiss Cam" Scandal During Concerts
Chris Martin, the frontman of Coldplay, has been addressing a viral incident that took place at their Boston show in July, humorously referencing the event during subsequent performances. The incident involved a viral video of Andy Byron, former CEO of Astronomer, and Kristin Cabot, former HR executive of Astronomer, reacting awkwardly when shown on the Jumbotron. This led to their resignations and significant online attention.
The viral video, now known as the Coldplay 'debacle', made the rounds on social media. Martin acknowledged the incident at the Boston gig, thanking a superfan who attended that show and joking about the incident while interacting with fans and reading signs at later performances.
During a concert at Wembley Stadium on August 22, 2025, Martin poked fun at the "internationally massive scandal" and performed a mock security check before helping a fan propose on the Jumbotron, contrasting the positive moment with the earlier viral controversy. At another show, he reassured fans they might appear on the Jumbotron despite the scandal, encouraging them in a playful way to prepare for their moment on screen.
Despite the controversy, Coldplay has continued its tradition of featuring fans on the Jumbotron, with Chris Martin directly addressing the incident in a lighthearted manner to maintain a positive concert atmosphere and keep the fan interaction alive. Coldplay will reportedly continue this tradition, posting photos of couples on the Jumbotron online.
In addition, Coldplay is currently continuing their Music of the Spheres World Tour at Craven Park in Kingston, England, and planning upcoming performances at London's Wembley Stadium. Chris Martin has also expressed his intention to take time to read signs written by fans at Coldplay concerts.
As for the viral Coldplay 'debacle', Chris Martin has reflected on the incident, but it seems the band is focusing on moving forward, keeping the spirit of fan interaction alive at their concerts.
