Coldplay potentially planning South Africa comeback?

Coldplay, one of the most successful and influential music acts of the 21st century, has made waves in the industry with their Music of the Spheres world tour. The tour, which began in March 2022, has become one of the biggest in music history, performing to over 13 million fans across 211 shows.

The tour has generated more than R25 billion in ticket sales and made Coldplay the first group in Spotify history to reach 90 million monthly listeners. Coldplay's music has significantly influenced popular culture, not just through their music, but also through their advocacy and achievements.

Coldplay consists of Chris Martin (vocalist and pianist), Jonny Buckland (guitarist), Will Champion (drummer and percussionist), Guy Berryman (bassist), and manager Phil Harvey. The band members first met at University College London.

Chris Martin's mention of southern Africa has raised hopes among local Coldplay fans that South Africa could be included in the tour. If added, the tour could potentially surpass Taylor Swift's Eras Tour as the highest-grossing tour of all time.

The band, known for their live performances, last performed in South Africa in 2011 with concerts in Cape Town and Johannesburg. Coldplay has sold over 160 million records worldwide, making them one of the best-selling music acts of all time.

However, no venues or dates for the South African shows have been confirmed yet. South African fans must wait for official confirmation regarding the inclusion of South Africa in the tour.

In personal news, Chris Martin and his partner Dakota Johnson ended their eight-year romance in June this year. Despite this, Martin remains focused on the tour, which is set to resume in 2027 with 138 additional shows planned.

Signs suggest a long-awaited Coldplay return to South Africa may be on the horizon. Fans eagerly await the official confirmation, hoping to once again experience the band's electrifying live performances in their home country.
