Heavy Rain and Severe Thunderstorms Expected in Western Turkey

Turkey is preparing for a spell of stormy weather, with several cities in the west anticipated to experience heavy rain and occasional severe thunderstorms over the next few days. According to the Turkish State Meteorological Service, İzmir, Aydın, Manisa, and Muğla are among the cities that could be affected.

Starting from the evening of September 17, these cities can expect showers and severe thunderstorms. The following day, on September 18, the rain is expected to spread to the eastern Marmara, the Black Sea region, the northern parts of Eastern Anatolia, and parts of the southern provinces of Mersin, Adana, and Hatay.

The Black Sea region is forecast to face three consecutive days of severe thunderstorms between September 18 and 20. In particular, Trabzon, Rize, Artvin, and the northern coastal districts of Kırklareli and Istanbul are expected to experience rainfall overnight into September 18.

Istanbul, Kırklareli, Kocaeli, Sakarya, Yalova, and Bursa are all expected to see showers turning into widespread downpours and occasional severe thunderstorms across the western Black Sea provinces.

Daytime temperatures from Sakarya to Artvin are forecast to range between 20 and 25 degrees Celsius. However, the low-pressure system is projected to weaken over the weekend, yet its impact will be felt most sharply in temperatures. Temperatures in the south and west are expected to stay above seasonal norms, while other regions will hover near the averages for mid-September.

In Ankara, temperatures will drop from 29 degrees Celsius on Sept. 17 to 23 on Sept. 18 and 20 by Sept. 19. Elsewhere in the country, skies will remain mostly clear.

Strong northerly winds are expected on September 18 along the western and central Black Sea, as well as the coastal areas of the Marmara and Aegean regions. From Sakarya to Artvin, heavy downpours may occasionally intensify. Nighttime lows will dip below 20 degrees Celsius, decreasing by 14-17 degrees in many provinces.

Significant cooling, severe thunderstorms, and strong winds are expected in the coming days. It's advised for residents in the affected areas to stay informed and take necessary precautions.
