Coca-Cola Company to Transition U.S. Sodas to Cane Sugar, Despite Lack of Official Communication from Trump Administration

In a surprising turn of events, Coca-Cola has announced plans to replace high fructose corn syrup with real cane sugar in its U.S. Coke products. The announcement, made following an agreement brokered by former President Donald Trump, has stirred a mix of reactions and speculations.

While Coca-Cola has not officially confirmed the agreement, President Trump claimed on his Truth Social platform that the change will take place. The announcement comes at a time when President Trump's handling of the Jeffrey Epstein scandal was under scrutiny.

Joey Politano and Jamie Bonkiewicz, among others, attribute the use of high fructose corn syrup in Coca-Cola in the U.S. to longstanding tariffs on sugar. Decades of protectionist trade policies have kept sugar costs twice as high in the USA as in free-trade countries, making the switch to real sugar a costly endeavour for the beverage giant.

However, the announcement has led to a flurry of humorous comments on social media. e-beth joked that Trump might also be working on getting cocaine back in Coca-Cola, while Yair Rosenberg referred to Coca-Cola's Kosher for Passover line, which uses cane sugar.

Warren, on the other hand, took a more serious tone, tweeting that Trump's announcement was a distraction from other pressing issues. "What Trump did today: Forgot he appointed Fed Chair Powell during his first term, yelled at a reporter to be quiet, said he can't appoint special counsel to investigate Epstein because he has 'nothing to do with that', prioritized changing the type of sugar in Coca Cola," Warren tweeted.

Gavin Newsom also weighed in, tweeting, "Cool, now release the Epstein files. We're not changing the subject."

Meanwhile, FactPost questioned the consistency of Trump's trade policies, stating, "Literally two days ago, Trump announced they were blocking a bunch of sugar imports. Today, Trump says he's gonna make Coca-Cola use sugar. It's like he's actively trying to design the least sensible trade policy possible."

As the dust settles, it remains to be seen whether Coca-Cola will indeed make the switch to real cane sugar in its U.S. products. The company has not issued an official statement confirming the agreement.

Social media users have shared a flurry of humorous comments about the potential switch to cane sugar in Coca-Cola, with e-beth joking that Trump might also bring cocaine back to the drink, and Yair Rosenberg making a reference to Coca-Cola's Kosher for Passover line. On a more serious note, Warren tweeted that Trump's announcement about Coca-Cola's sugar change was a distraction from other pressing issues, while Gavin Newsom suggested that the former president should release the Epstein files instead. FactPost questioned the consistency of Trump's trade policies, noting that he had announced the blocking of sugar imports just two days prior to the Coca-Cola announcement.
