A beach home has collapsed into the ocean in Cape Hatteras, North Carolina, according to officials. The incident occurred on Tuesday, and the unoccupied home that collapsed is located at 46227 Tower Circle Road near Buxton, as reported by the Cape Hatteras National Seashore. The National Park Service manages the seashore.
The exact cause of the home falling into the ocean is not specified. However, the presence of these threatened structures adds to the safety concerns in the area.
Officials have asked people to avoid the beach and stay out of the water due to the incident. Visitors should avoid the north end of Rodanthe due to the presence of threatened oceanfront homes. The pre-existing beach safety closure from the north end of Buxton to around off-road vehicle ramp 43 may need to be expanded, depending on the extent of the debris field caused by the fallen home.
Fortunately, no injuries or fatalities have been reported as a result of the home falling into the ocean. The National Park Service is currently assessing the situation and will provide updates as more information becomes available.
