Coastal Chennai prepares for an evening of funk, soul, and dance as The Nook departs from its usual territory to entertain
Chennai is about to witness a night of laughter and music, as comedian Manjeet Sarkar brings his latest comedy special to the city as part of the Nook Lounge. This exciting event is organised by the Room Service Collective, a group of friends from the Chennai music scene, many of whom studied at Swarnabhoomi Academy of Music.
The Nook Lounge, a new venture by the core members of the collective, will take place at The Spotted Deer, ECR, on September 20, starting at 8 pm. Tickets, starting at Rs 1,000, are now available.
The first Nook Lounge aims to get people dancing and grooving, with a set that will hit harder and have people shaking their booties. The night will feature fresh arrangements of funk and soul staples, including songs from James Brown, Prince, Michael Jackson, and Lettuce.
Vishnu, a member of the Room Service Collective, plans to showcase a moment where he attempts a stick trick, fails, drops the stick, and picks it back up just in time without missing a beat. Sahib, another member, hopes that people will have a memorable, unique experience at the Nook Lounge, feeling like they've never danced to live music like this in Chennai before.
Azan, another band member, intends to use easier-to-digest, jazz-adjacent styles of music to develop audiences' taste, with plans to push into deeper territory with their originals.
The growing music scene in the city, with more venues and influence from educational institutions like SAM and KM, is providing a fertile ground for the Nook Lounge to flourish. The band 'Room Service' belongs to the music group 'The Room Service Collective' and will be playing at the Nook Lounge on September 20 at The Spotted Deer in Chennai. Don't miss out on this unforgettable night of laughter, music, and dancing!
