In the final stretch of the season, Maximilian Krauß finds himself in hot water with his former team, Energie Cottbus. Coach Claus-Dieter Wollitz levels shocking accusations, Krauß fights back. All this, while Cottbus manages to clinch a place in the promotion/relegation final.

The story begins in mid-February, with a game against SC Verl. Krauß comes on in the second half and scores the winning goal in the 59th minute. The Lausitz region is buzzing with dreams of another consecutive promotion. But by May, a dramatic turn of events leaves Krauß as the fall guy and taints the team's remarkable achievement.

His coach, Claus-Dieter Wollitz, describes Krauß as "this character" who is currently "out of my radar" in an explosive interview with MagentaSport. These comments, made before the away game against Hansa Rostock on Saturday, are just the latest chapter in a development that has left nothing but losers in its wake.

Krauss, known for his exceptional performances throughout the season, becomes the target. Wollitz reports that his teammates have removed the letter "K" from Krauß's locker: "It reads 'rauß' now. I think that speaks for itself." The turning point in this escalating saga is Krauss's decision not to renew his contract with Cottbus. Instead, he signs with Hansa Rostock for the upcoming season.

Wollitz Accuses Krauß of Match-Fixing

The timing of Krauss's transfer rubs Wollitz the wrong way. The coach suggests that Krauß had intentions beyond his career when he joined Hansa Rostock, even going as far as accusing Krauß of manipulating matches. The accusations echo Wollitz’s own past experiences with match-fixing, having faced a similar scandal at VfL Osnabrück in 2009. The club was relegated in part due to players intentionally playing poorly for money. Two players involved in the scandal, including Wollitz himself, were later banned.

Wollitz bases his accusations on Krauß's impressive statistics before the 24th matchday. Krauß scored the winning goal against Verl as a substitute at that time, but since then, Wollitz claims that Krauß's performance data has dropped significantly. He implies that Krauß may have received his fifth yellow card against Verl in injury time intentionally, which would have resulted in a suspension for the following away game, but Krauss's search for a new team may have been the motivation. However, Wollitz provides no concrete evidence or proof to support his claims.

Krauß Speaks Out Against Accusations

Between Wollitz's initial outburst in the press conference and the match against Rostock, Krauß also makes public statements defending himself against the damaging allegations that could ruin his career. "I am taken aback by the baseless claims of my coach," says Krauß. "We were looking for contractual security until the end of April," regarding the contract for the upcoming season. "We achieved this with our agreement last Monday." It appears that the Cottbus offer did not communicate their unconditional interest.

Incidentally, Cottbus surprises everyone with a 3-1 win against Rostock. The victory puts them in third place, one step closer to the promotion/relegation playoffs for the 2. Bundesliga. It's a thrilling race to the finish.

It's important to note that no solid evidence or substantial proof has emerged to support Wollitz's claims regarding Krauß and match-fixing. If there were any ongoing investigations, they would likely be reported by football news outlets.
