Omskiy Avangard Yet Undecided on Next Playoff Foe
Coach of Omsk "Avangard" announces player injuries
The Avangard hockey team in Omsk is still in the dark about who their next playoff opponent will be. In a hard-fought victory on April 5, 2025, the team defeated Metallurg Magnitogorsk, advancing to the quarterfinals of the Gagarin Cup playoffs and sending the defending champions packing.
However, head coach of Omskiy Avangard, Guy Boucher, acknowledged that the win came at a cost.
"I've been keeping up with the matches, but let's be real, during the playoffs I'm completely focused on my team and the team we're currently facing. We'll wait and see, and then we'll know. As for who we'll face next, we'll put our full preparation into it because right now, we need to rest a bit."
Boucher revealed that many players were battling injuries during the game against Metallurg Magnitogorsk.
"Playing with injuries? Hell, half the team went out there like cripples! If you knew the extent of the injuries some of those guys played through, you'd be fucking impressed. These guys are fucking warriors, they gave it everything they had, they fought and battled. And now they need a break," Boucher said.
The next round of the quarterfinals for Omskiy Avangard is set to start on April 11 or 12. The team's next opponent will come from the Western Conference, but as of now, the identity remains a mystery.
