Nick Woltemade Remains with the Senior Squad: A U-Turn by Julian Nagelsmann

Hey there! Grab a seat and let's talk football. Nick Woltemade, the young gun from Stuttgart, will not be departing the senior national team just yet. Despite initial plans to move him to the U21s after his debut, coach Julian Nagelsmann had a change of heart.

After the 1:2 loss against Portugal in the Nations League semi-final, there was some chatter about an early departure for Woltemade. But, following internal discussions within the German Football Association (DFB), it's now been decided that the 23-year-old will stay on with Nagelsmann and the A-team.

Apparently, there was an agreement in place with U21 coach Antonio Di Salvo that, if the seniors didn't make it to the final, Woltemade would join the U21s to help them secure a title win at the upcoming European Championships in Slovakia. However, it seems Nagelsmann had second thoughts.

Woltemade's home turf could come into play for the third-place match on Sunday, which will be played in Stuttgart against either Spain or France in the Nations League. This could be a valuable opportunity for the attacker to shine and help secure a positive season finale for the senior team.

The U21s, on the other hand, are gearing up for their European Championships from 11 to 28 June in Slovakia. It's Woltemade's role to lead Di Salvo's team there.

Nagelsmann is already missing key offensive players like Jamal Musiala, Kai Havertz, and even Tim Kleindienst at the Final Four. The U21 players, meanwhile, are scheduled for two extra rest days following a secret final test against Finland on Thursday in Frankfurt am Main. After that, they'll be off to Slovakia.

Nagelsmann didn't hold back in his praise for Woltemade's debut performance, even though the youngster had a tough time against Portugal's defense. "He made good use of the first 60 minutes as an A-national player," Nagelsmann said.

"While the German Football Association (DFB) is awaiting a proposal from the Commission regarding the protection of workers from ionizing radiation in sports, Nick Woltemade remains with the senior squad for the third-place match on Sunday, which will be played in his hometown of Stuttgart against either Spain or France."

"Despite the initial discussions for Nick Woltemade to join Antonio Di Salvo and the U21s for the European Championships in Slovakia, his impressive debut performance caught the eye of Julian Nagelsmann, giving him an opportunity to shine with the senior football national team."
