Basketball Chatter: Coach Herbert Eyeing Post-Olympics Club Gig

German basketball maestro, Gordon Herbert, mulls over a club coaching position post-Olympics. A tentative agreement with French Ligue Nationale de Basket (LNB) outfit Asvel Lyon-Villeurbanne reportedly fell through due to opposition from the German Basketball Federation (DBB).

However, a post-Paris Olympic opportunity might just materialize, according to Herbert, who spoke to "Sport Bild." The German national team, spearheaded by captain Dennis Schröder, is touted as a medal favorite at the Olympics in July 27 to August 11 in Paris and Lille.

Who will don the German jersey for the Summer Olympics remains uncertain, Herbert opined. "Champions like France, naturally, have an edge. But take Nik Weiler-Babb, for instance. He missed out in Asia due to an injury. I'll have to factor in his future," Herbert mentioned.

Dennis Schröder, now with the Los Angeles Lakers, is eager to cement Germany's spot on the international stage. Reigning world champions have an advantage, but budding talents like Nick Weiler-Babb could snatch opportunities.

Notwithstanding this potential club gig in Bavaria, Herbert remains committed to steering the German national team through the Paris Olympics.

Herbert's shift from national to club coaching could signal a comprehensive expansion in basketball interests. Despite his current focus on FC Bayern Munich and the national team, no concrete plans for the post-Olympics era have been unveiled as yet.

Behind the Scenes:

Herbert has been busy post-Olympics, taking a two-day break in Western Finland before heading to Munich. His time in Munich, however, has largely been invested in his role as FC Bayern Munich's head coach.[5]

Calm after the Olympics storm, Herbert has his priorities divided between his club role and the national team. His significant involvement with the German squad prior to the Olympics has now taken a back seat to his club duties.[2][5]
