After a tumultuous tenure as interim and then head coach, Andreas Patz has been let go by second division team Jahn Regensburg. The club announced their decision on May 8th, citing a desire to start fresh ahead of the 2025/26 season in the third division. Patz requested to leave before the final two games of the season, with Munier Raychouni stepping in as his replacement.
Jahn Regensburg's decision to part ways with Patz comes after a string of seven coach dismissals in the second division over the past three months. This revolving door of coaches has been a common theme in the league this season.
"Following an intense, critical, but always open and honest conversation with Andi Patz after the away game in Cologne, we have jointly decided that it's best for both parties to part ways," said sporting director Achim Beierlorzer. "We want to start anew in the third division and tackle the upcoming challenges with new impulses and a new profile in the coaching team."
Coach Patz had initially stepped in as interim coach after the team's disastrous 3:8 loss against 1. FC Nuremberg in October 2024. He was later promoted to head coach on a contract extending until the end of the season. Despite initial improvements, the team failed to secure a place in the 2nd Bundesliga, ultimately getting relegated on May 7th.
"Regrettably, we haven't been able to achieve the desired results to maintain our spot in the 2nd Bundesliga over the past few months. It's a decision that I, as head coach, take full responsibility for," said Patz. "I wish SSV Jahn all the success in the years to come."
