Co-workers Celebrate Unexpected Fortune After Christmas Lottery Win

"Tis the season of giving, right?" So thought Sheila Colter, shift leader at Bowling Green Medical Center, as she ordered office gifts for her colleagues online before the Christmas party.

But the party took place during the first week of December, and the gifts didn't arrive on time.

"So, I decided to upgrade to scratch-offs," she told the Kentucky Lottery.

Colter gave her employees scratch-offs and several $30 tickets for them to split among themselves, one of which won $50. This encouraged the colleagues to start playing again, thinking more was better.

"We've always played as a team," Colter said, who lives in Bowling Green. "I stood by the road on my way to work, and we continued to win."

One of the tickets she bought was a $50 Millionaire Club Rubbellos ticket. This ticket won $100 on December 10. In August, she bought two more – one of which netted the group a total of $50,000 at the end.

"We were all so excited," she said. "I was on the floor."

According to the Kentucky Lottery, the bonus for federal taxes for the group will be approximately $36,000, which will amount to around $1,750 for each employee.

Colter mentioned that she intends to use her winnings for Christmas shopping.

Cherishing her share of the winnings, Colter's colleague Winnie Beckman intended to pay her mother's medical bills, who was recently diagnosed with cancer.

"It will be a great help," she said. "I will never forget it."
