CNN partners with Kalshi to bring real-time forecasting into breaking news coverage
CNN has inked a new data-sharing pact with Kalshi, the event-based forecasting platform. The agreement provides the network direct access to real-time probability feeds for major news events, from elections to economic shifts.
The partnership seeks to infuse CNN’s broadcasts, digital platforms, and social media channels with updated forecasting data.
First reported by Axios, under the terms, CNN will integrate Kalshi’s probability data into its broadcast tools and digital displays via a dedicated API. The feed will also extend to the network’s streaming services, ensuring real-time updates across all platforms.
Anchors and analysts will now cite Kalshi’s live probabilities during coverage of elections, economic trends, and breaking news cycles. The system is designed to support continuous reporting with up-to-the-minute contract data.
Kalshi chose not to charge CNN for access. Instead, the company secured exclusivity in exchange for CNN’s vast audience reach, aiming to enhance public understanding of event-based forecasting. Data analyst Harry Enten played a pivotal role in integrating Kalshi’s feed into CNN’s existing systems.
Legal questions around event contracts persist in several US states. However, Kalshi believes the CNN partnership will boost visibility and help clarify how regulated forecasting platforms operate.
The deal enables CNN to incorporate Kalshi’s predictive data into its reporting at no cost. Analysts and presenters will now use the feed to provide viewers with dynamic insights on unfolding events. The arrangement also positions Kalshi for greater recognition as it navigates ongoing regulatory challenges.
