CNN panel criticizes Harris' interview with Colbert for her absence of solutions after six months of problem-solving

In a recent interview on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, Vice President Kamala Harris faced criticism for her seemingly guarded and robotic demeanor, as well as for providing vague answers to questions about her political future and the state of the Democratic Party.

The interview was criticized for lacking a message of leadership or moving forward, and for unclear references to "the system." CNN correspondent Jasmine Wright emphasized that Harris did not articulate any specific solutions or describe precisely what the problems are, which is what people expect from her given her prominent role. CNN senior reporter Aaron Blake highlighted that other Democratic leaders have openly discussed the challenges facing American democracy, but Harris uniquely fell short of this responsibility.

CNN data analyst Harry Enten dismissed Harris's reasoning for stepping back from running for California governor, calling her comments about rejecting "the system" inconsistent with her long political career and suggesting her decisions are driven by unfavorable polling rather than a principled stance.

The lack of substantive solutions or insights about the party's future or Harris's own political strategy beyond general statements has been a recurring theme in her public appearances. Michelle Price, AP White House reporter, noted that Harris seemed physically uncomfortable during the interview, and her performance has been consistently criticized for coming across as inauthentic or making comical gaffes.

The criticism extends to the lack of a consistent message from Democrats regarding America's institutions and democracy. Aaron Blake suggested that the lack of a prominent, consistent figure may be hindering Democrats' ability to drive their message effectively. Manu Raju, a CNN panel host, agreed that Harris has not said anything significant for six months.

Former NOTUS White House Correspondent Jasmine Wright argued that Harris should address what went wrong in the 2024 election and her campaign, and criticized her for using "amorphous phrasing" like "the system." Wright suggested that Harris should provide answers to people's questions about what went wrong and what she wants to do, potentially during her upcoming listening tour in December.
