Clueless star Alicia Silverstone shared exciting news regarding the classic film, leaving fans in a state of excitement.
The much-anticipated reboot of the iconic 1995 film "Clueless" is currently in development at Peacock, with Alicia Silverstone set to reprise her role as Cher Horowitz in a sequel series.
The new show, set in a modern 2025 setting, will reflect the evolving cultural values of today, with Cher's fashion choices leaning towards sustainability and veganism. Silverstone will also serve as an executive producer on the series.
Speaking about her excitement, Silverstone shared, "I can't wait to step back into Cher’s skin and her fancy designer shoes that will be gently used." She added that the goal is to honor the original film and the character of Cher while showcasing her growth and new direction.
The creative team behind the series, including Josh Schwartz, Stephanie Savage, Jordan Weiss, Amy Heckerling, and Robert Lawrence, have significant experience in teen dramas, having worked on shows like The OC and Gossip Girl.
In a separate interview, Silverstone reflected on the film's long-lasting legacy and its journey into a "cultural phenomenon." She could not explain why or what made 'Clueless' a cultural phenomenon, but she knows it happened and continues to be loved.
The production of the new series is currently in the "baby stages," but Silverstone has already discussed the film's impact with Vogue five years ago. She stated that people love 'Clueless' because of Cher's attempts to evolve due to her sweet Josh.
The reboot will take viewers back to the setting of the original film, Beverly Hills, as Silverstone appears on "Today" to discuss the new series. The series is a continuation or sequel rather than a fresh reboot focusing on a different character, contrasting with an earlier abandoned project centered on Cher’s best friend Dionne Davenport.
