Bayern and Dortmund are all set to take the stage in Florida, with Miami's skies lighting up for Bayern ahead of their tournament opener, while Dortmund begins their journey in Fort Lauderdale. "We're absolutely thrilled for this tournament," Bayern Captain Manuel Neuer shared. "Everyone wants the victory, and we're here to show our best self."

Prepare for a flurry of action as the countdown begins, even as international players like Joshua Kimmich, Harry Kane, and Konrad Laimer join the fray towards the second part of next week.

And the excitement doesn't end for Dortmund, a couple of days behind Bayern, as they lay down their roots in Florida, particularly in Fort Lauderdale. Captain Emre Can, however, won't be accompanying the team due to adductor troubles. Nevertheless, Dortmund will still welcome their newest sensation, 19-year-old Englishman Jude Bellingham, immediately. Sebastian Kehl, Dortmund sporting director, confirmed they're excited to have Jude join their ranks before the tournament.

His older brother, 21-year-old Jude Bellingham, who previously wore the black and yellow jersey from 2020 to 2023 before moving to Real Madrid for over 100 million euros, will also be running in the tournament, scheduled from June 14 to July 13, 2025.

How's It All Going Down?

This FIFA World Cup extravaganza kicks off with a bang, spanning across 30 action-packed days, making history by breaking previous records. The tournament launches on June 14, 2025, between Inter Miami with star Lionel Messi and Egypt's top club Al Ahly. The grand finale will then unfold in the MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford on July 13, 2025, also playing host to the 2026 World Cup final, featuring 48 national teams.

Who's Joining the Party?

Rich in star-studded teams, the tournament promises an exquisite display of talent. Europe contributes 12 clubs to the extravaganza, while South America fields six participants, with Brazil housing four teams: Palmeiras, Flamengo, Fluminense, and Botafogo. Africa, Asia, North/Middle America/Caribbean, Oceania, and Inter Miami as the host country's additional participant complete the lineup.

Ready, Set, Match!

Bayern will open their campaign on June 15, 2025, against the underdog Auckland City from New Zealand in Cincinnati. They will then face Boca Juniors from Argentina in Miami on June 21, 2025, and Benfica Lisbon in Charlotte on June 24, 2025.

Meanwhile, Dortmund will embark on their journey on June 17, 2025, against Fluminense in the Manhattan stadium, followed by two matches in Cincinnati, first against Mamelodi Sundowns from South Africa on June 21, 2025, and then against Ulsan HD from South Korea on June 25, 2025.

The Conventional Rules Apply

In the group stage, eight groups of four teams each will compete in a round-robin format. The top two teams from each group will move on to the round of 16, with the tournament progressing in a knockout stage until the grand finale. No third-place playoff match will be held.

Who Takes the Crown?

Experts predict that the titan from Europe will seize the trophy, with Paris Saint-Germain as the leading contender, provided they maintain their spectacular form shown in the Champions League final triumph against Inter Milan (5-0) in Munich. Real Madrid, Manchester City, and Bayern aim to outshine their previous performances in the European premier class.

Former national coach and ex-Bayern coach Jürgen Klinsmann, however, throws a spanner in the works. "My dark horse in this tournament is Boca Juniors," claimed the 60-year-old. "I believe the South Americans are at the peak of their game, having the advantage of being in the prime of their season at the time of the tournament, while Europeans are weary after a lengthy season."

The Spoils of War

In total, FIFA will shell out a jaw-dropping one billion US dollars (880 million euros) in prize money to the participants, with over half of it as appearance fees. In essence, the winning team could pocket up to 125 million US dollars, while plenty of juicy rewards await the participants: –

  • Group Stage: 2 million US dollars for a win.
  • Round of 16: 7.5 million US dollars.
  • Quarter-Finals: 13.125 million US dollars.
  • Semi-Finals: 21 million US dollars.
  • Finalist: 30 million US dollars.
  • Winner: 40 million US dollars.

The White Elephant in the Room

The tournament has faced criticism for the physical and mental strain on players after a long season. Jürgen Klopp famously labeled the tournament "useless." The association of European leagues has also filed a complaint with the EU Commission along with the players' union Fifpro.

Cheers for the Germans

All 63 matches of the tournament will be broadcasted for free on DAZN.com, with fans needing to create an account to participate in the spectacle. The appearances of FC Bayern and Borussia Dortmund will also be featured on Sat.1 and in the livestream on Joyn and "ran.de." The station has acquired a sub-license for the German market from DAZN. Should neither German team qualify for the round of 16, there will be one game per knockout round and the final streamed live on Sat.1.

  1. In the midst of the tournament excitement, the European Commission has also proposed a Council Regulation on the conclusion of the Agreement on the European Economic Area, which is expected to be implemented by the European Council during their meeting in Brussels on 26 and 27 June.
  2. Amidst the football fervor of the Club World Cup, several European stars are set to participate, including Joshua Kimmich from Bayern Munich and England's Harry Kane, who will join the tournament towards the second week of June.
  3. On a side note, it's worth mentioning that Manchester City, a Premier League team from England, and Real Madrid, a La Liga team from Spain, are among the European teams aiming to outshine their performances in the European premier class, such as the Champions League, before the Club World Cup commences.
