Clinician Taylor Branch to Delve into The Clinton Tapes Discussion at National Archives, Set for October 7th
On Wednesday, October 7, at 7 p.m., author Taylor Branch will discuss his latest book, The Clinton Tapes: Wrestling History in the White House, at the William G. McGowan Theater of the National Archives Building.
Branch, a Pulitzer Prize-winning author, is renowned for his insightful works on American history. He has served as a staff member for The Washington Monthly, Harper's, and Esquire. In addition to his new book, he is the author of two other nonfiction books and a novel.
Over seven years while in office, President Bill Clinton described what it's like to be president to Branch. Immediately after each of the seventy-nine sessions, Branch recorded his reactions to their conversations, as well as Clinton's demeanor, moods, and daily life in the West Wing.
The Clinton Tapes offers an intimate, behind-the-scenes look at Clinton’s presidency, revealing his candid thoughts and deliberations on various historical and political events. A notable example from the book details Clinton’s reflections on the Bosnian War and the international arms embargo on Bosnia.
The book is a valuable primary source compilation that captures the detailed conversations and critical reflections of Bill Clinton during his presidency, illustrating his leadership style, challenges faced, and historical context of the 1990s and early 2000s.
The event is presented in partnership with the William J. Clinton Presidential Library and Museum. Featured books are available for purchase in the Archives Shop before or during the event at a 15% discount.
The discussion will take place at the National Archives Building, located at Constitution Avenue and 7th Street, NW. The event is Metro accessible on the Yellow and Green lines, Archives/Navy Memorial/Penn Quarter station.
