Climbing up the professional rankings
In the heart of Tanzania's Rukwa region, preparations are underway for a significant event. Father Beatus Urassa, a revered figure in the Catholic community, is set to be ordained as a bishop in Sumbawanga.
Father Urassa's journey to this momentous occasion has been a long and fruitful one. He began his theological studies in 1992, and in 1997, he was ordained a priest. After his ordination, he joined the Roman Catholic order "Opus Spiritus Sancti" (OSS).
Following his studies, Father Urassa embarked on a series of stays in Germany, the third of which was from December 1, 2016, to April 28, 2018. During his time in Germany, he collaborated excellently with Pastor Erwin Bauer and Catholic organizations in pastoral work.
Upon his departure from the Eslarner parish, Father Urassa expressed his gratitude for the positive experiences he had there. He considered his time in the Eslarner parish a human, spiritual, and cultural enrichment. Upon his arrival in Sumbawanga, he is expected to be greeted warmly by the parish, with many hands reaching out to shake his and congratulations pouring in.
Father Urassa's new role will see him responsible for 711,680 Catholics, 23 parishes, 54 priests, 62 religious brothers, and 307 religious sisters in Sumbawanga. Archbishop Marek Solczynski will ordain him as bishop, with the Apostolic Nuncio in Tanzania, Archbishop Marek Solczyński, conducting the episcopal ordination on June 24, 2018.
Before his election as superior for the African province in 2003, Father Urassa earned a doctorate in spirituality of the "redemptoris missio" in the Church's missionary mandate in Rome. This academic achievement underscores his deep commitment to the Church and its mission.
Father Urassa's journey back to his homeland is not only a professional one but also a personal one. He spoke of many friendly encounters from his homeland, and he will undoubtedly carry these memories with him as he embarks on his new role.
As Father Beatus Urassa prepares to take on his new role, the Catholic community in Sumbawanga and beyond eagerly awaits his arrival and the positive impact he is sure to have on their spiritual lives.
