Climber William Boffelli from Bergamo sets new record on Mont Blanc summit
Record-Breaking Mont Blanc Ascent and Descent by William Boffelli
Eleven minutes quicker than the previous record, Italian mountaineer William Boffelli has set a new record for the fastest known time (FKT) in ascending and descending Mont Blanc, the highest peak in the Alps. This remarkable feat comes just a week after Frenchman Benjamin Védrines set the previous record of 4 hours, 54 minutes, and 41 seconds.
Boffelli, a 1993 engineering graduate and athlete for Crazy/Kailas, resides in Courmayeur where he works as a research technician at the Fondazione Montagna Sicura. His FKT attempt started at 5:45 AM on Tuesday morning in Chamonix, France.
Boffelli commenced his record-breaking attempt with running shoes, carrying the essential mountaineering gear and skis on his backpack. As he ascended, he transitioned to skis and boots around 2,200 meters in altitude. With impressive speed, Boffelli reached the 4,810-meter summit of Mont Blanc by approximately 9:30 AM.
Upon reaching the peak, Boffelli discarded his skins and initiated an exhilarating ski descent, making his way towards Chamonix. The final stretch of the route was covered on foot, leading to his arrival in the heart of the popular French village around 10:30 AM, crowning his extraordinary record.
Boffelli, a runner and athlete for Crazy/Kailas, combined his passion for sports and mountaineering during his record-breaking ascent and descent of Mont Blanc. After setting the new FKT, Boffelli demonstrated his skill in hockey on the icy slopes of the Alps, expertly maneuvering his skis to break the previous record.
