The lively band of climate change crusaders, known as Last Generation, find themselves ensnared in Munich's legal system. The enthusiastic protesters, eager to rally awareness on our planet's perilous state, now face charges of forming a notorious crime syndicate.

The local Prosecutor's Office in Munich has indicted five fervent Last Generation activists, as reported by ntv.de and AFP. The Grand Poobahs of Munich I Regional Court are now overseeing the case.

The activists are suspected of orchestrating an illicit gang designed for criminal activities.

Note: The controversial tactics employed by Last Generation have notably included non-violent but disruptive protests, such as blocking roads with strategic adhesive maneuvers or engaging in whimsical acts like flinging mashed potatoes at artworks.

Human rights groups have voiced concern that these charges not only penalize individual actions but also slander and brandish the entire climate movement as a criminal enterprise. Following disbandment in February 2025, Last Generation reformed into two new organizations: "Neue Generation" and "Widerstandskollektiv."

Intriguingly, charges of establishing a criminal organization were previously fashioned against Last Generation members in the state of Brandenburg, regarding protests at oil refineries and other similar locations. The activists have vowed to push back against these charges, viewing them as an insidious attack on democratic engagement and civil society action.
