Climate Action Group Demands Community Participation in Climate Protest
In the heart of Germany, the town of Bergisch Gladbach is gearing up for a significant week as the second round of voting for the mayoral election approaches on September 28. The two candidates vying for the position are Alexander Felsch (CDU/FDP) and Marcel Kreutz (SPD/Grüne).
On Saturday, September 20, a debate between these two candidates will take place at 12 PM on the castle steps in Bensberg's Schlossstraße. After the debate, the Bensberger Herbstfest will follow at the same location.
Meanwhile, the global climate change crisis remains a pressing concern. On the same day as the debate, Fridays for Future Germany is organizing a nationwide climate demo. In Bergisch Gladbach, the initiative 'KlimaGerecht Leben' is also organizing a rally under the motto 'For Climate and Justice'. The rally will begin at 4 PM on the Konrad-Adenauer-Platz.
The climate demo in Bergisch Gladbach invites everyone to join, network, and engage in exchange. The Open Climate Talk of the initiative 'KlimaGerecht Leben' is taking place on Wednesday, September 17, at 7 PM at the Gasthaus Passt, under the topic 'Exit Gas, Enter Future'.
However, the federal government's actions in regards to climate change have been a subject of contention. Despite the urgency of the issue, the government is relying on fossil infrastructure, cutting international aid for those fleeing the global consequences of climate change, and preventing the expansion of renewable energies.
Moreover, after years of CDU blockade, a CDU mayor is now threatening to move into the town hall in Bergisch Gladbach and potentially cancel climate protection. This move has sparked concern and calls for action from local climate activists.
The climate strike on September 20 is about global justice, redistribution, and preserving human life bases. The strike aims to highlight the need for immediate action to combat climate change and ensure a sustainable future for all.
As the election and climate actions approach, the town of Bergisch Gladbach and its residents are encouraged to engage in these important discussions and take steps towards a more sustainable future.
