Cleveland Cavaliers Expand Local Over-the-Air Distribution and Announce Broadcast Partners
The Cleveland Cavaliers have made exciting announcements for the upcoming 2022-23 NBA season, expanding their local over-the-air distribution and revealing their broadcast partners.
Starting this season, the Cavaliers games will be available for local over-the-air distribution, reaching fans not only in Northeast Ohio but also in Columbus and Cincinnati. Fans in these cities can tune in to Channel 17.1 WDEM in Columbus, Channel 19.3 in Cincinnati, and Channel 22.1 for free over-the-air, as well as on WUAB Channel 43. In addition, fans in Northeast Ohio can access the games on Rock Entertainment Sports Network, available on channel 979 on Spectrum and free over-the-air on channel 22.1, as well as on WUAB Channel 43.
Rock Entertainment Sports Network will debut Cavaliers games for the first time, marking a significant milestone for the network. FanDuel Sports Network Ohio, owned by Main Street Sports Group, will also broadcast the Cavaliers games. The NBA's agreement with Main Street Sports Group (formerly Diamond Sports Group) allows for this local over-the-air distribution.
David Hughes, vice president and general manager of WOIO and WUAB, expressed his excitement about giving more fans the opportunity to watch the Cavs team. Mike Conley, executive vice president and chief information officer of the Cleveland Cavaliers, Rock Entertainment Group, and Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse, is committed to providing multiple avenues for fans to watch the games.
In addition to the local over-the-air distribution, the Cavaliers' nationally televised games will be simulcast across Ohio, including Cleveland, Columbus, and Cincinnati, on various platforms. ESPN and the ESPN App will carry 7 games, NBC and Peacock will broadcast 5 games on NBC with an additional 5 games exclusively on Peacock streaming, Amazon Prime Video will air 4 games, and ABC (and ESPN App) will broadcast 3 games.
The season will start with two road games on ESPN (Oct. 22 at New York and Oct. 24 at Brooklyn) followed by the home opener at Rocket Arena on Oct. 26 versus Milwaukee. The exact local broadcast channels for regional simulcasts in Ohio, Columbus, and Cincinnati are not explicitly detailed, but national games will appear on the listed national networks.
