Cleveland Guardians Add Chase DeLauter for Postseason, Potential MLB History in Sight
The Cleveland Guardians have bolstered their postseason roster with the addition of outfielder Chase DeLauter. The 23-year-old, who turns 24 on Oct. 8, could make history by becoming the sixth player in MLB history to debut during the postseason. DeLauter has been viewed as one of the Guardians' top outfield options for the playoffs, despite not playing in a regulation game since July due to wrist surgery.
DeLauter's journey to the majors has been marked by injuries, but his talent has never been in question. Before the season, MLB.com's Matt Eddy ranked him as the third-best prospect in the Guardians' farm system. In 34 Triple-A games this year, DeLauter hit .278/.383/.476 with five home runs and 22 walks, demonstrating his ability to make an impact at the plate.
His potential debut would join an exclusive club of players who have made their MLB debuts during the playoffs. Shane McClanahan, Ryan Weathers, Alex Kirilloff, Adalberto Mondesi, and Mark Kiger are among those who have achieved this feat.
Chase DeLauter has been added to the Guardians' roster for the Wild Card Series against the Detroit Tigers. Despite his injury history, the Guardians are confident in his abilities and believe he can contribute to their postseason run. If he debuts, he will not only be making his MLB debut but also potentially making history.
