"Classic film 'Girl in Uniform' is slated for a fresh adaptation"
In the world of cinema, anticipation is building for a highly-anticipated remake of the groundbreaking boarding school drama, "Girls in Uniform." Directed and written by Justina Jürgensen, this new adaptation is set to hit cinemas in 2026.
The original film, released nearly 95 years ago, told a poignant story of unrequited love in strict Prussia. The story revolves around a 14-year-old orphan, Manuela von Meinhardis, who falls in love with her teacher, Fraulein von Bernburg. This remake will be based on a play by Christa Winsloe and a novel adaptation titled "The Girl Manuela."
The filming for this remake commenced at the beginning of the week and will continue until the end of October. The locations for filming include Brandenburg and Bavaria.
The lead roles in the remake are taken by Derya Akyol and Josefine Koenig, with Leonie Benesch, Jannis Niewoehner, and Angela Winkler also joining the cast.
Interestingly, a remake of the original film was made in 1958 with Romy Schneider and Lilli Palmer.
The original film by Leontine Sagan is considered the first pure women's film and the first lesbian film in film history. This new adaptation promises to continue the legacy of this significant piece of cinema.
While the film distributor for the remake is Tobis, further details about the production and release of the film are yet to be announced. Stay tuned for more updates on this exciting new adaptation of "Girls in Uniform."
