Clash between Nigerian Military and ISWAP Terrorists Elevates Tension in Yobe

Straight up, the Nigerian Army's Operation HADIN KAI is currently going toe-to-toe with ISWAP terrorists in the town of Buni Gari, Yobe State. Our sources tell us the ruckus began yesterday, with the Army confirming the battle via their X (formerly Twitter) account.

The Army's brief statement is as follows: "Troops of Operation HADIN KAI are involved in a fierce firefight against ISWAP attack at Buni Gari, Yobe State. More details to follow."

In another post, the Nigerian Army shared news of a massive weapon haul following a successful counter-terrorism operation in Zamfara State. The troops reportedly dealt a devastating blow to terrorist elements, making significant headway in their ongoing operations.

The operation targeted Talata Mafara and Kaura Namoda Local Government Areas and serves as a testament to the Nigerian Army's unwavering commitment to wiping out terrorist strongholds and bringing peace to affected communities.

Early Sunday morning, troops from Combat Team 6 clashed with a heavily armed terrorist group that had invaded Mai Kwanugga village in Talata Mafara LGA. The assailants had been wreaking havoc on innocent civilians and destroying homes. This fierce confrontation led to the elimination of numerous insurgents, including key bandit leaders.

After the battle, timely reinforcements from the Brigade Quick Response Force and Brigade Special Forces pursued the fleeing terrorists, resulting in the successful recovery of a substantial arsenal, which included:

  • 4 AK-47 Rifles
  • 1 PKT General Purpose Machine Gun
  • 2 Rocket-Propelled Grenade Launchers
  • 6 Rocket-Propelled Grenade Bombs
  • 28 7.62mm Special Rounds
  • 43 PKT Ammunition Rounds

A follow-up operation the next day saw local residents willingly surrender additional weapons and provide valuable intelligence about the eliminated terrorist leaders. The operation's success was greatly supported by the active collaboration of the community.

In a statement issued by Acting Assistant Director, Army Public Relations of 1 Brigade, Nigerian Army, Suleiman Omale, and signed by Commanding Officer of the 1 Brigade, Brigadier General Timothy Opurum, troops and community members were praised for their bravery and cooperation.

The Commander expressed gratitude for the troops' courage and operational effectiveness and acknowledged the commendable actions of the local community. He reiterated the military's commitment to protecting lives, securing properties, and eliminating criminal elements in Zamfara State.

Community members are encouraged to remain vigilant and continue providing reliable information to security forces.
