Clash between Indian and Chinese forces in fresh dispute, as footage from 2021 emerges, showing Indian soldiers pushing back Chinese troops
In a recent development, the Indian military confirmed a border clash between Indian and Chinese troops at Yangtse, Tawang, in Arunachal Pradesh on December 9, 2021. This marks the latest incident in the ongoing dispute over the undemarcated 3488-kilometre border between the two Asian giants, which is riddled with 25 points of conflict.
The skirmish at Yangtse came after repeated attempts by Chinese troops to cross the Line of Actual Control (LAC) and unilaterally change the status quo. This is reminiscent of the clashes at Galwan Valley in June 2020, which resulted in the death of 20 Indian soldiers and more than 40 Chinese soldiers being killed or injured.
Defense Minister Rajnath Singh confirmed an attempt by China to encroach on the same location as the December 9 clash. According to the military, the video of the incident, which has been shared by various political leaders, shows Indian soldiers repelling a concerted effort by Chinese soldiers to breach their defenses and advance.
During the physical scuffle, both sides suffered minor injuries. Indian soldiers are seen using physical force, including batons and fists, to prevent the Chinese soldiers from advancing. Remarkably, the soldiers can be heard shouting phrases like "Hit them so hard, they do not come back" and "Chase them away."
Following the clash, Indian soldiers are reported to have forced Chinese soldiers to retreat from their posts. The situation along the border was also addressed through diplomatic channels. After the Galwan clashes, Indian and Chinese soldiers withdrew from key points including Gogra-Hot Springs in Ladakh following multiple conferences between military leaders.
It is important to note that the video is not connected to the December 9 case, according to the Military. However, the location of the skirmish in the video is the same as the recent incident that occurred on December 9, 2021, at the Yangtse industry near the LAC.
This is not the first time such incidents have occurred. A video from 2015 emerged, showing a skirmish between Indian and Chinese troops in Tawang, Arunachal Pradesh. Chinese troops have consistently targeted Yangtse, one of the 25 points of conflict, as evidenced by the repeated attempts to cross the LAC.
Despite the ongoing tension, the search results do not provide specific information about politicians who shared a video after the event on December 9, 2022. The Indian government has not yet issued a statement regarding this matter. The border dispute between India and China remains a significant issue, with both nations vowing to protect their territorial integrity.
