Claim Your Share of Apple's $25M Settlement: Were You Misled?

Did you fall victim to misleading advertisements about sharing your iPhone subscription with your family using Apple's Family Sharing feature? Are you looking for some extra cash? If so, you might be eligible for a settlement.

Apple recently reached a settlement worth $25 million due to a class-action lawsuit that alleges the company misrepresented its Family Sharing feature in advertising. While Apple denies any wrongdoing, they have agreed to settle the lawsuit. And with a market capitalization of over $3 billion, this settlement doesn't even make a dent in their pocket.

Are You Eligible?

The lawsuit alleges that Apple promoted the "Home Sharing" feature as a way to spread the cost of an Apple subscription among family members. However, third-party developers can disable this feature, meaning a user might purchase a subscription for a non-Apple platform, thinking they could share it with up to five people, only to find out they have to pay separately again.

If you meet the eligibility criteria below, you might be entitled to a share of the settlement:

  1. Timeframe: You joined at least one Family Sharing group between June 21, 2015, and January 30, 2019.
  2. Residency: You must be a U.S. citizen and resided in the country during the time of the purchase.
  3. Subscription: You must have purchased an app subscription through the Apple App Store without realizing that you were required to pay separately for each user.

If you meet these criteria, you could be entitled to at least $30. The exact amount you could receive depends on the total number of eligible claimants. Lawyers representing the claimants could receive up to $10 million as their fee.

How to Claim Your Share

Making a claim in the lawsuit is relatively straightforward, but remember that you can't sue Apple for the same issue in the future if you accept any compensation now.

To make a claim, simply provide the necessary information, including your contact details and proof of your subscription. You can either sign up with a unique PIN or submit your claim without a PIN by mail. The process starts under this .
