Over a duration of ten days, Israel's military operations in Gaza have forced approximately 180,000 individuals to flee their homes, as reported by the International Organization for Migration on May 27. As the conflict enters its 600th day, this figure signifies the ongoing displacement in the region.

Civilian population displacement escalates in Gaza as Israel's ongoing conflict surpasses the 588-day milestone.

In Gaza City, the Israel-Palm division has uprooted nearly 180,000 residents since October 2023, according to the International Organization for Migration. As the conflict marks its 600th day, the humanitarian crisis deepens.

Over the past 24 hours, at least 79 lives were lost in Palestinian territory, bringing the total death toll to 54,056. The International Organization for Migration expressed grave concerns, underscoring frequent attacks on displacement shelters as a growing concern.

The United Nations has repeatedly criticized Israel's actions, with the U.N. human rights commissioner decrying them as "inhumane." The U.N. refugee agency for Palestinians, UNRWA, described Gazans as continually finding themselves vulnerable, forced to flee in search of elusive safety.

Hamas has called for international protests, urging pressure on Israel to end the destructive conflict. Meanwhile, a new aid distribution system has commenced operations in Gaza, providing essential supplies amidst soaring hunger levels.

However, the flow of aid has been obstructed by ultra-right-wing groups, who have impeded trucks leaving the Ashdod Port. Hamas announced acceptance of a proposed ceasefire, involving a 70-day truce and hostage release, but U.S. envoy Steve Witkoff denied making such an offer. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's ambiguous statements concerning the hostages have sparked frustration among affected families.

The displacement situation in Gaza City is severe, with over 1.9 million people, or 90% of the population, having been displaced during the conflict. Displaced Palestinians are often forced into temporary shelters, which have come under attack, adding to their vulnerability. Ongoing hostilities and attacks on aid infrastructure pose immense challenges to effective aid delivery.

The next Gaza Humanitarian Response Update is due on June 4, 2025, indicating ongoing efforts to monitor and respond to the crisis.

  1. The continuing war-and-conflicts in Gaza have led to a worsening of human rights issues, as displaced Palestinians, making up 90% of the population, face ongoing attacks on their shelters and lack access to basic necessities.
  2. The political tensions surrounding the conflict, including the obstruction of aid distribution and ambiguous statements from Israeli leaders, have caused significant frustration and concern, further complicating efforts to provide general news coverage of humanitarian crises in the region.
