City visit: Ambassador Oleksii Makeiev from Ukraine granted entry into the city's Golden Book
In a recent meeting, Mayor Petra Broistedt of Göttingen, Germany, assured Ukrainian Ambassador Oleksii Makeiev that the city's support for Ochtyrka, their partner city in eastern Ukraine, would not waver. This assurance comes amidst concerns expressed by Ambassador Makeiev about the potential overshadowing of the war in Ukraine during the upcoming federal election campaign.
Mayor Broistedt welcomed Ambassador Makeiev and reaffirmed Göttingen's commitment to aiding Ochtyrka. In March, a sports field, sports equipment, solar panels, and a generator, worth 120,000 euros, will be delivered to Ochtyrka. This aid, procured by the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development and the Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ), follows an initial aid package that was sent after the Russian attack on Ukraine.
Mayor Pavlo Kuzmenko of Ochtyrka, in a video message, expressed his gratitude to Göttingen residents and the city administration for their initial aid. The blue and yellow stele, set up in front of the New Town Hall in Göttingen, will remain standing until there is peace in Ukraine, serving as a constant reminder of the city's solidarity with Ochtyrka.
For those who wish to express feedback or opinions on the city administration's messages, a specific website has been made available. Additionally, registration for important news from the city administration is available on Telegram and Notify. A digital guide, Verwalti, is also available to answer simple questions and direct users to the right contact persons.
Ambassador Makeiev, in a heartfelt statement, expressed his gratitude for the aid measures and upcoming donations and aid shipments to Ukraine. He signed the Golden Book of the City of Göttingen on January 24, 2025, as a symbol of the strong bond between the two cities.
In February 2025, three fire trucks filled with material donations will be handed over to Ochtyrka. Registration for these services is free, and more information about the services can be found on the city's website.
Göttingen stands in solidarity with Ochtyrka and the people of Ukraine, providing aid and support in these challenging times.
