From Laughs to Fixes: Braunschweig's Quirky Bench

Once again, Braunschweig finds itself in the spotlight, this time due to comedian Mario Barth's RTL show, "Mario Barth uncovers". In the latest episode, Barth took a swipe at a peculiar sight alongside the Braunschweig Ring road.

Braunschweig's Greenway on RTL

For nearly 12 years, Mario Barth has been exposing wasteful spending of tax money on RTL. His show is like a televised black book, now taking on a truly unusual sight in Braunschweig...

Barth's Confusion - "What a cool sight!"

Initially, Barth showcases the Braunschweig Ring road in his show, praising the city's concept of transforming the old railway track into a pedestrian and cycling path. "I think that's a great idea," says Barth. However, the twist comes when he remarks that theactivity isn't just about walking; you want to sit too. A large image follows, depicting a wooden bench nestled next to an overgrown fence – with a view of the fence...into nothing! Guest Joachim Llambi playfully calls it "The view of the greenery". The bench can be found near the Globus market.

Barth's Appreciation - "Thanks, Braunschweig!"

Upon learning about the senseless bench on the Ring road, Barth's team confronted the city of Braunschweig. The city hall responded swiftly. The press office told RTL: "The original sight line has become heavily overgrown over the years, so there's no view left. As such, the direction of the bench's view no longer makes sense. It will be turned 180 degrees shortly." Delighted, Barth quipped: "Thanks, Braunschweig! You see, folks, this show makes a difference!" True to his words, the bench now faces a garden center, a car wash, and an unusually empty parking lot.

This isn't Barth's first tangle with Braunschweig. Three years ago, he scrutinized the public toilet in the cultural quarter, more or less. The reasoning? You can find out here!

Unfortunate news for Barth's fans in Braunschweig. An original performance of his show "Men are nothing without women" at the Volkswagen Hall, scheduled at the beginning of April, had to be cancelled due to illness. The rescheduled date is October 11th.
