City paralyzed by gridlock as crashes and freezing cold worsen travel chaos
Heavy traffic jams have brought parts of the city to a standstill after multiple crashes blocked major intersections. Authorities are advising residents to avoid unnecessary travel as freezing temperatures add to the disruption. Several key routes remain gridlocked, causing delays across the area.
The worst congestion has hit downtown, where streets between Komsomolskaya, Kuybysheva, Karla Libknekhta, and Chelyuskintsev are severely clogged. A crash at the intersection of FurmANOVA and Moskovskaya has completely blocked traffic in both directions. Another collision at Shchorsa and Mashinnaya has worsened delays in the surrounding area.
On the Yegorshinsky approach near the Kalina interchange, three separate accidents have further slowed movement. Taxi prices have surged due to high demand, with a ride from UrFU to the Yeltsin Center now costing around 1,000 rubles.
Forecasters have issued warnings for abnormally cold nights in the Middle Urals over the holidays. Temperatures are expected to drop to –27°C, with the coldest night predicted from March 10 to 11. In response, officials have urged people to dress warmly and limit car journeys where possible.
The combination of severe traffic jams and extreme cold is causing significant disruption. Residents face longer travel times, higher transport costs, and difficult road conditions. Authorities continue to monitor the situation as the holiday period approaches.
