City official plans to title the local park after Dahlmeier.
Garmisch-Partenkirchen to Rename Kurpark as Laura-Dahlmeier-Park in Tribute to Biathlon Champion
Following the tragic death of double Olympic biathlon champion Laura Dahlmeier in a mountaineering accident in Pakistan, the town of Garmisch-Partenkirchen is preparing to honor her memory by renaming a local park after her.
The Kurpark, a popular park located in Partenkirchen, is set to become the Laura-Dahlmeier-Park. The proposal for the renaming was made by Mayor Elisabeth Koch and is scheduled to be presented at a September council meeting. The plan was confirmed by the German Press Agency and the "Munich Mercury," a local news outlet.
The decision to rename the park was made shortly after Dahlmeier's death on July 30, 2025. The renaming process is in close coordination with the family of the late biathlete. A temporary memorial site has been set up in the Kurpark, where people can pay their respects to Dahlmeier. The site includes a photo, a candle, a stone from local mountains, and a plaque.
The condolence book, available for people to express their thoughts and memories about Dahlmeier, can be found on the municipality's website. The employees of the town hall will collect all incoming condolence messages.
Dahlmeier, a former biathlete from Garmisch-Partenkirchen, was previously honored by the town by being named an honorary citizen in 2018. The Catholic church in Garmisch-Partenkirchen also serves as a place to remember Dahlmeier.
The municipality stated on its website that Dahlmeier was a highly esteemed and lovable personality. The condolence book will be presented to the family of Dahlmeihc once it is closed.
The sudden death of Dahlmeier has touched many people's hearts beyond the borders of Garmisch-Partenkirchen. As the community continues to mourn, further commemorative events may follow in the coming weeks and months.
