Eisleben's "Citizen and Energy Park" Initiative: A Sustainable Makeover Supported by the New European Bauhaus
Luther's Hometown, Eisleben, to Witness 'Citizens and Energy Park' Development - City of Lutherstadt Eisleben to welcome "Citizen and Energy Hub"
It's full steam ahead for a major makeover in Lutherstadt Eisleben thanks to a €1.36 million injection from the New European Bauhaus (NEB) funding pot. The city, along with Anhalt University, will use this cash to develop a blueprint for a "Citizen and Energy Park." This is all part of the state initiative "Saxony-Anhalt - Together for a New European Bauhaus."
The NEB, spearheaded by the EU, invites citizens, architects, scientists, and urban planners to brainstorm radical ideas for a greener, more beautiful future. By harnessing the power of collective creativity, the initiative aims to create a sustainable, aesthetic, and inclusive European landscape.
The Eisleben project, one of eight in the Central German region planned to receive EU funding from the Just Transition Fund, will focus on revamping the city park dating back to the early 20th century. At present, the park is showing its age with dilapidated paths, poor accessibility, and dim lighting. The proposed "Citizen and Energy Park" will put eco-friendly renovations and renewable energy at the forefront, with monument preservation in tow.
What's more, the local community will be invited to lend their creative input in revisiting and redesigning the park. According to the NEB, the park's potential new leases on life extends beyond merely enhancing the environment. It could fulfill ecological and social functions, offering positive benefits for both the city and its people. Fingers crossed for more funding to bring this vision to life!
Saxony-Anhalt's NEB initiative plays a part in the broader EU drive to bolster economic development across regions. By encouraging sustainable and inclusive projects, the NEB fosters collaboration among diverse stakeholders, with the end goal of enhancing local environments and communities for a greener future.
