City Mayor Dieter Kießling adds an entry in Nordhorn's "City Prestige Register"
Former Mayor Dieter Kießling Inscribed in Nordhorn's Golden Book
Last Friday, Dieter Kießling, a former mayor of the city, made a significant visit to Nordhorn. The highlight of his trip was the inscription in the 'Golden Book' of the city, a symbol of its history and the service of its former mayors.
Accompanied by the melodious strains of the Nordhorn Music School's string quartet, led by Hilmar Sundermann, the inscription ceremony took place in the town hall. Around 40 guests were invited to witness this ceremonial event.
In his closing remarks, Kießling thanked the city for the honour and expressed his support for the continuation of the Nordhorn-Reichenbach city partnership. The inscription signifies Kießling's significant contribution to this partnership, as he served as Mayor of Reichenbach until May 31, 2016.
The inscription in the 'Golden Book' was in recognition of Kießling's decades of service in fostering the city partnership. Achim Haming, who delivered an extensive but engaging laudation during the ceremony, emphasised Kießling's dedication and impact.
The 'Golden Book' is a significant historical record, documenting important events and figures in Nordhorn's history. It is likely a physical book or scroll, given its historical significance. The inscription of Kießling marks the end of his tenure as mayor.
Prior to the inscription ceremony, Kießling visited Nordhorn to attend the Street Culture Festival and meet his long-time companions and former Mayor, Meinhard Hüsemann. After the ceremony, he attended the announced gala of the festival.
Dieter Kießling's inscription in the 'Golden Book' of the City of Nordhorn is a tradition for former mayors. As of September 2025, Christoph Meier is a leading mayoral candidate for the 2026 election, but it is not confirmed if he is the incumbent mayor who signed Kießling into the 'Golden Book.'
