City designation for Eurovision-2026 announced twice

Vienna, Austria, is all set to host the world's largest live music event, Eurovision, for the third time. The announcement came after Austrian singer JJ, whose real name is Johannes Pietsch, secured victory in the Swiss city of Basel in the spring of 2025.

The Austrian Public Broadcaster, ORF, will be organising the event, following the tradition that the song contest is always held in the country whose singer won the previous year. JJ, along with Udo Jürgens and Conchita Wurst, are the other three Austrian winners of Eurovision.

The semifinals of Eurovision-2026 will take place on May 12 and 14, 2026, with the final scheduled for May 16. Over $26 million will be allocated for the event in Vienna.

While Vienna gears up for the grand event, another song contest, Intervision, is also making headlines. Russia is reviving Intervision, a song contest that existed from 1946 to 1993. Intervision will take place in Moscow in September, with around 20 countries, including Belarus, confirming their participation. However, it's worth noting that Belarus is not allowed to participate in Eurovision.

Anastasia Kravchenko will represent Belarus in Intervision. The last Eurovision was watched by 160 million viewers, indicating the global appeal of these music events.

Vienna has a rich history with Eurovision, having previously hosted the event in 1967 and 2015. The city's iconic venues promise an unforgettable experience for both performers and viewers alike.

As the countdown to Eurovision-2026 begins, excitement is building in Vienna and across the world. With three Austrian winners and a rich history with the event, the city is ready to shine once again on the global stage.
