City Council Election Results in the Semi-Official Capacity of Cerritos Announced

Official Certification of Cerritos City Council Election Results Set for March 19

The official certification of the 2025 Cerritos City Council election results is scheduled to take place at a special City Council/Successor Agency meeting on March 19, 2025, at 7:00 PM in the Council Chamber. This meeting will also include recognition of outgoing council members.

According to the latest election results, as of March 7, 2025, Mark E. Pulido, Jennifer Hong, and Sophia Tse are leading with 3,888, 3,575, and 3,381 votes respectively. Riaz Surti, (Pat) Ashok Patnaik, Rocky Pavone, Esther Hwang, Hao (Ricky) Huynh, 'JC' Jignesh Chokshi, and Adrian Ayub follow with 2,784, 2,071, 1,887, 778, 436, 396, and 274 votes respectively.

The election results will not be official until certified by City Council adoption of a resolution. The certification process is currently scheduled at 7 p.m. in the City Council Chamber on the same date, March 19, 2025.

The swearing-in ceremony for the newly-elected Councilmembers is scheduled for 7 p.m. on Wednesday, March 26, 2025. The ceremony and the subsequent meeting will be held at the Cerritos Center for the Performing Arts. During the ceremony, the City Council will select, by majority vote, the Mayor and Mayor Pro Tem.

The election results will be broadcast live on Cerritos TV3 and the City's YouTube Channel, allowing residents to watch the proceedings from the comfort of their homes.

It's important to note that the dates provided are tentative and subject to change. Some Cerritos residents have expressed concern about recent election changes, with a gathering planned at the April 27, 2023 Cerritos City Council meeting to protest what they perceive as voter suppression.

City Mayor Naresh Solanki and Mayor Pro Tem Chuong Vo have withdrawn from the March 2025 City Council election, leaving open seats for the newly-elected Councilmembers to fill.

The final tally of election results will commence at 1 p.m. on Friday, March 14, 2025, in the City Council Chamber. Following the certification, the City Council will move forward with the swearing-in ceremony and the selection of the new Mayor and Mayor Pro Tem, marking a new chapter for the Cerritos City Council.
