City council chairmanship is being vacated by Dirk Jansen.
Dirk Jansen Returns as School Council Chairman, Advocating for Improvements in Neuss Schools
Dirk Jansen, a familiar figure in Neuss's educational community, has taken on a new role as the school council chairman at the Norf comprehensive school. His return marks a renewed commitment to addressing longstanding issues at the school and the Dreikönigsschule, a facility that has been closed for 13 years.
Jansen's tenacity in addressing shortcomings in Neuss schools is well-known. During his nearly five-year tenure as the leader of the city parents' council, he was the public face of the council, unafraid to voice criticism and stand by it. His advocacy extended to the Dreikönigsschule and the dilapidated sports hall at the Norf comprehensive school, which serves approximately 1,255 students.
Jansen has raised concerns about the state of the sports hall, highlighting its small size as a significant issue. He has suggested a new building as a solution, aiming to provide students with a suitable facility for physical education and extracurricular activities.
In his previous role, Jansen achieved several notable milestones. These include the renovation of the Kreuzschule/Martin-Luther-Schule, pushing for toilet renovations at the Norf comprehensive school, and the digitalization of Neuss schools by equipping all students with iPads.
Despite stepping down from his position as the leader of the city parents' council, Jansen's focus on school improvements continues. He praises the cooperation with the city, the school administration, and district director Dirk Brüggge during his term, particularly during the pandemic. He notes that the city has followed the requirements set by him and his council.
However, the city has not yet made a decision about the future of the Dreikönigsschule. Jansen has given the school administration, the SERNS (presumably the school administration), profile and weight in politics and administration, emphasizing the importance of their role in the community.
Jansen's daughter is in the 8th grade at the Norf comprehensive school, and his son attends the Nelly-Sachs-Gymnasium (6th grade). His personal connection to the schools underscores his commitment to improving the educational environment for all students in Neuss.
As Jansen embarks on this new chapter, he looks forward to continuing his advocacy for improvements in Neuss schools, ensuring that every student has access to quality education and facilities.
