A Lowdown on the Fresh Faces in Plano Town Hall
The voting populace of Plano recently cast their ballots, selecting the new representatives for four open city council seats and school board positions for the school district. Moreover, it seems a major $648 million bond package might be on its way.
Here are the preliminary results, with the majority of vote centers reporting, for your perusal.
Plano City Council
Seat 2: Business over Tussle
Local entrepreneur Bob Kehr, the owner of IT services provider Kehr Technologies, seem poised to outshine Carson Underwood and Douglas Reeves comfortably, grabbing roughly 55% of votes. The trio were vying for the position vacated by Anthony Ricciardelli, who stepped down due to term limits.
Kehr, a seasoned member of the Plano Chamber of Commerce's board of directors and the Plano Parks and Recreation Commission, was also named Plano's Small Businessperson of the Year in 2022 and is the current chair of Leadership Plano Class 36.
Seat 4: Court Dominates Controversy
Local attorney Chris Krupa Downs appears to have an edge over former Plano ISD school board trustee Cody Weaver with about 54% of the vote. downs' extensive legal background caught the attention of voters.
A vice chair of Plano's Cultural Affairs Commission according to her website, and a member of the Plano Historical Commission and Leadership Plano, Krupa Downs stressed the significance of infrastructure improvements for the mature city of Plano.
Seat 5: A Neck-and-Neck Battle
Steve Lavine looks set to emerge victorious over Gary Carey in the race for a spot once held by Shelby Williams. Lavine, an alumnus of Leadership Plano and Plano's Citizen's Academy, has experience serving on city boards and commissions.
A bill in the Texas House, authored by Republican Plano Rep. Matt Shaheen, could potentially decrease funding for Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART). Lavine echoed concerns of the current city council regarding excessive Plano contributions to DART.
