City celebrates Shooting Festival: Millingen marks event with music and unique parade
Get ready to pack your shooting gear and party clothes, folks! The St. Quirinus Shooting Society Millingen is gearing up for their annual festival, happening from the 13th to the 16th of June. This bash is dubbed as the "biggest tent disco shooting festival on the lower Rhine," and the organizers are hyping it up, claiming they're gonna break the visitor record this year!
The juniors' bird shooting starts on Saturday, 14th June, at 2 pm. After that, it's a non-stop celebration with a church service, a military tattoo, a wreath-laying ceremony, and a dance event that'll keep you dancing till the wee hours. Admission to the tent disco is €12 and it opens at 9 pm.
However, this year's festival program has seen some modifications. The district shooting festival coinciding with the event and the sad demise of Dr. Jens Schröder, the long-time business manager and current king of the St. Quirinus Shooting Society Millingen, have affected the itinerary. Dr. Schröder passed away unexpectedly on 19th October 2024 at the age of 64.
If you're in the area, don't forget to check out the district flag twirling event on Sunday, 15th June. The Millinger Shooters, as the previous winners, are hosting the parade, and it's scheduled to take place at 2 pm in the festival tent.
After the award ceremony of the district flag twirling at 7 pm, the bird shooting will commence, followed by the coronation of the new king. The flag twirling of the students and the seniors is also planned for the evening. Dancing shoes at the ready, because the music runs till 1 am!
The festival wraps up on Monday, 16th June, with the new vice-queen Annika Verweyen's pick-up at 10.15 am. The parade, where the new majesties with their entourage, the master of ceremonies, and honorary guests will be picked up, starts at 5 pm.
