The city of Gütersloh issued a warning on September 18, 2025, advising its citizens to be cautious of a fake Instagram account posing as the official presence of the city. The false channel, operating under the handle @mnmlrec, has no connection to the city's official communication.
The city's only official Instagram presence is at www.instagram.com/stadtguetersloh, which can be recognised by the verification badge from Meta. Users are encouraged to subscribe to this account and no other.
The city has already reported the fake account to Instagram and requests citizens to do the same. The false account is currently sending messages to users that should not be accepted. The city warns against subscribing to the false channel, as well as against disclosing personal data.
The city's warning includes a request to withhold personal data and not to respond to suspicious messages from the fake profile. Users are also requested not to share the false account with others.
The city's official announcements only occur through verified communication channels, so it is important to verify the authenticity of any social media account claiming to represent the city. The city of Gütersloh thanks its citizens for their cooperation and vigilance in this matter.
