City Archives to Preserve "Grape" Narrative
Grevenbroich: Mayor Advocates for Restaurant's Historical Importance
Mayor Klaus Krützen seeks to incorporate the historical narrative of Grevenbroich's acclaimed restaurant, "Zur Traube," into the city's archives. To facilitate this process, he recently met with the Kaufmann couple, current residents of Neuss, who previously ran the renowned establishment.
For decades, the Kaufmann couple's culinary efforts at "Zur Traube" earned two Michelin stars and elevated Grevenbroich's gastronomic standing on the international stage. Luminaries from the political, cultural, and artistic circles, drawn by the restaurant's prestigious reputation and high culinary standards, graced its tables.
Dieter Kaufmann, the acclaimed head chef, received various honors, including the Federal Cross of Merit. In 1993, Gault Millau honored him with the title of "Cook of the Year" and praised his "subtly refined, natural cuisine."
"The history of the 'Traube' is a cultural artifact that reflects Grevenbroich's evolution," remarked Mayor Krützen. "The Kaufmanns' memoirs offer invaluable historical insights into the city's cultural and social growth."
The closure of "Zur Traube" in 2014 was partly due to sociological modifications within Grevenbroich at the turn of the century.
During their conversation, the mayor and the couple agreed to further discuss archiving the memories and documents associated with the restaurant. A subsequent meeting has been planned to determine specific measures for incorporating the collection into the city archives.
