In the summer of 1980, a shooting incident in Birmingham, Alabama, has been revisited, with the investigation now being expanded to include the state of Alabama. The shooting, which took place near a highway overpass in the United States, involved only two individuals and resulted in the death of a 38-year-old man.

The events unfolded when George Daubert, a resident of Dade County, Florida, was awakened by intruders trying to break into his home. Daubert, who had a revolver with him, ordered the intruders to freeze, but one of them lunged at him. In self-defence, Daubert fired at the intruder, wounding him.

The wounded intruder later died at the hospital, and the shooting was initially investigated by the Jefferson County, Alabama district attorney. However, the further investigation is now being led by unspecified state authorities, with the investigation ongoing.

The location of the shooting, which occurred near a highway overpass in the United States, is now considered state property, an interstate bypass. The shooting incident is significant as it has been ruled a justifiable homicide.
