In a shocking turn of events, a shooting incident that took place on June 9, 2025, has been ruled a justifiable homicide by the Jefferson County, Alabama district attorney. The incident, which occurred near a highway overpass and outside the Church of Reconciler in Birmingham, Alabama, claimed the life of a 38-year-old man.

According to reports by The Herald in Miami, Florida, the victim was killed by an unidentified assailant during a dispute that escalated under the nearby highway overpass. The shooting investigation is now being handled by the state, as the incident site is considered state property, being an interstate bypass.

Prior to this tragic event, George Daubert, a resident of Dade County, Florida, was awakened by intruders trying to break into his home. In a desperate attempt to protect himself, Mr. Daubert found his revolver and ordered the intruders to freeze. One of the intruders, however, lunged at Mr. Daubert, prompting him to shoot and wound the individual.

The wounded intruder later died at a hospital, while Mr. Daubert was not charged in the incident, which occurred in the foyer of his home in Dade County, Florida. The second intruder, if identified, is still at large.

The shooting near Birmingham, Alabama, has sent shockwaves through the community, with many questioning the safety of the area. The church where the dispute is believed to have started has also expressed its condolences to the family of the deceased and its hopes for peace and justice in the wake of this tragic event.
