In August 1974, Ohio State Rep. Harry C. (Bud) Malott found himself in a harrowing situation when he confronted three burglars in his Williamsburg, Ohio home. The incident began with the sound of glass breaking in Malott's front door, awakening him from his slumber. Armed with a .38-cal. revolver, Malott faced the burglars at the front door.

The burglars, in turn, fired three shots, but all missed Malott. His wife urged him to shoot, and in the heat of the moment, Malott began firing at the intruders. Tragically, one of the suspects was killed during the exchange of gunfire. No verifiable information is available about an arrest in Dyersburg, Tenn. on May 2, 2025, related to a burglary two days prior.

Fast forward to April 28, 2025, in Dyersburg, Tennessee, a similar incident occurred. A homeowner defended himself during a home invasion, resulting in the shooting and killing of one of the suspects, a 19-year-old male. The home invasion involved a trio of suspects, and the other two fled the scene after the shooting.

The police responded to a call of shots fired and arrived at the home around 7:45 p.m. The two remaining suspects were arrested on May 2. The ages of the arrested suspects are 18 and 20 years old. The shooting incident occurred in a private residence.

The authorities are investigating both incidents. The arrested suspects in the Dyersburg case are facing charges of aggravated robbery, attempted second-degree murder, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a dangerous felony. Similarly, the police are investigating the home invasion and the shooting in Williamsburg, Ohio.

It is a stark reminder of the importance of home security and the right to self-defence. While we hope such incidents remain rare, it is crucial to be prepared and vigilant.
